Caux Initiatives for Business is honoured to cover the story of a man who has had the courage to run his business ethically and mindful of all its stakeholders. Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai, the visionary and driving force, who within a short span of time, has built the Malaysian-based company, Top Glove Corporation Bhd into the world’s largest rubber glove manufacturer, with operations spanning across Malaysia, Thailand, China, US and Europe.
The Top Glove success story began over a quarter of a century ago in 1991, as a local business enterprise with a single factory and three production lines. Today, it has captured 25% of the world market share. But that is not why we chose to cover Top Glove’s story. In our desire to publish best business practices, we recognized that in Top Glove we had a classic example of how one can be competitive while still remaining ethical, relevant and sustainable.
Further, we have provided for you an extract from an impressive, brilliant book by Frederic Laloux titled “Reinventing Organizations – A Guide to Creating Organizations Inspired by the Next Stage of Human Consciousness”. While, as Richard Barrett, Chairman & Founder of Barrett Values Centre says, “the book is a comprehensive, highly practical account of the emergent worldview in business. It is everything you need to know about building a new paradigm organization,” we felt that the short extract would be encouraging enough for you to recognize that you are not alone. You have an increasing number who are desirous to shift from “external to internal yardsticks in decision-making.”
It is writings like this that inspire. It is stories like this that CIB is desirous of bringing to you each time. The intention is clear. We all are capable of making the right choices. But in a world that is becoming increasingly volatile and disruptive, what we all need is encouragement. We hope this issue’s purpose would be met as you read.
