James Mageria from Kenya, through his diverse fields of experience, has shown that when you know what is right and are convinced that doing what is right is the only answer to wrong; then it is only logical to relentlessly pursue it.
From a Police Officer to an MD of a construction company; from heading various social organizations to working closely with the government to review the country’s Constitution; from his present responsibility as Chairman of a world-class hospital to his dream of making a difference in villages; Mr. Mageria has been determined to do what is right, even at the cost of personal loss. I hope it will be of encouragement to you as you read his story.
In addition, this issue also carries a short story of how a company, recognizing its ability to influence and its power to effect change, was able to help a struggling whale shark trapped in the nets of local fishermen. It is a story of a company that had no personal or business benefit in what was happening on the not-so-far-away coast, yet it intervened with the view that “Sustainability” is a must if we are to survive, even when not directly affected.
