    CIB eSPIRIT – Vol. 2, Issue 3

    February 8, 2016 By CIB Global

    James Mageria from Kenya, through his diverse fields of experience, has shown that when you know what is right and are convinced that doing what is right is the only answer to wrong; then it is only logical to relentlessly pursue it.

    From a Police Officer to an MD of a construction company; from heading various social organizations to working closely with the government to review the country’s Constitution; from his present responsibility as Chairman of a world-class hospital to his dream of making a difference in villages; Mr. Mageria has been determined to do what is right, even at the cost of personal loss. I hope it will be of encouragement to you as you read his story.

    In addition, this issue also carries a short story of how a company, recognizing its ability to influence and its power to effect change, was able to help a struggling whale shark trapped in the nets of local fishermen. It is a story of a company that had no personal or business benefit in what was happening on the not-so-far-away coast, yet it intervened with the view that “Sustainability” is a must if we are to survive, even when not directly affected.

    WHO WE ARE

    Initiatives of Change for Business is an international fellowship for businesspersons — a comradeship of like-minded individuals who are committed to furthering ethical practices in their work and convincing an increasing number of their business colleagues that “one can be ethical in one’s business dealings and still be competitive”.

    WHAT WE DO

    Initiatives of Change for Business (ICB) is a forum for its members to discuss the business environment, in its various aspects and help find solutions to the problems that they face or may face in maintaining high ethical standards in their dealings.

    FOCUS AREA

    Engage business people and decision makers in honest conversations and action on the issues associated with globalization and the human face of economics

    Highlight the role that each individual can play in bringing positive changes in business and economic life, and sharing related experience;

    Equip people with practical tools, grounded in a moral and ethical framework, for use in their places of work.
